Why Choose Turning Point?
Turning Point is best known for its work with youth with dual-diagnosis/co-occurring disorders. Turning Point provides Drug & Alcohol treatment in tandem with Mental Health Treatment. We provide direct clinical intervention services to address behavioral health and substance abuse issues for high-risk youth, ultimately teaching youth to make healthy life choices and smarter decisions. Our well qualified staff, combined with the agency’s five decades of experience, allow us to better treat youth with the programs and services they need, no matter the intensity of their troubles and challenges. We also provide services to adults, through our DUI/DWAI program, individual or family therapy, and mental health and substance use evaluations. Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of many Evidence Based Practices employed by Turning Point. Evidenced-Based Practices are supported by research that prove their effectiveness in helping people to make emotional and behavioral changes.
DBT, focuses on needs specific to the profile of the clients in our care. The goals of treatment include reducing self injuring and life threatening behaviors, therapy interfering and quality of life interfering behaviors while increasing behavioral skills.
DBT is an approach found effective in treating those with complex, difficult to treat mental disorders as well as co-occurring disorders. Included in DBT is the concept of mindfulness practices which moves a client towards control of their thinking and use of the “wise mind.”
DBT is a method of teaching skills that can help. The following skills are taught: Interpersonal Effectiveness; Distress Tolerance; Reality Acceptance; Emotion Regulation; and Mindfulness. DBT helps those who have personal and environmental factors that often block and/or inhibit the use of behavioral skills that reinforce dysfunctional behaviors. Certified Addiction Counselors
Turning Point employs Addiction Specialists to work with all clients toward addiction recovery and sobriety. In addition the majority of Turning Point staff members (counselors, therapists and teachers) are Certified Addiction Counselors Levels I, II or III.
